Shoulder Pain

What is it?

Dull, sharp, grinding or referred pain that occurs anywhere between the shoulder and the neck. Localised dull aching pain in the shoulder joint that can refer down the arm or into the neck.

Repetitive strain injuries, osteoarthritis, degenerative diseases, muscle injuries or tightness, spinal injuries or postural conditions related to the spine.

Risk factors:

  • Repetitive actions
  • Activities which put strain on the shoulders or upper back
  • Pushing too hard at the gym which can cause a complete tear of the rotator cuffs.
  • Degenerative diseases such as arthritis or osteoarthritis which weakens the joints and insertion points

Treatment options:

The cause of your shoulder pain and the extent of any injury/ inflammation will determine what treatment is most suitable. Rest is essential for most injuries. Strapping can also help elevate and stabilise common shoulder injuries. This reduces the inflammation and allows for better range of motion by pulling up the fascia underneath the skin and promoting blood flow into the region which is essential for nourishment and healing.

Remedial massage is great for taking pressure off the joints by releasing the muscles. The various different techniques help to boost the synovial fluid which reduces friction.

Laser therapy works to decrease any inflammation which speeds up recovery time.
