Headaches

What is it?

A headache is a feeling of a constant, sharp or dull pain in the occipital and cranial region.

Causes:

Dehydration, lack of sleep, stress, strain or RSI, wearing tight fitted garments on the head or anything that can cause pressure on the head, hypertension, infections, sinus congestion, trauma, tumours or tight muscles

Risk factors:

  • Having other health conditions
  • Being under continuous stress and mental health problems.
  • Eye and neck strain
  • Having a lot of screen time
  • Poor lighting
  • Sudden temperature changes.

Treatment options:

Treat the cause of the headache. If headaches are caused by muscular tension, remedial massage techniques can help alleviate tension which works to decrease pain. Common massage techniques used are trigger point therapy, myofascial release and neuromuscular techniques.

Laser therapy is great at decreasing inflammation in the tissue taking pressure off the nervous system, allowing for recovery by directly acting on the red blood cells.
